Hi
The Windows Installer Clean up utility is no longer available from that URL. The only web page from the MS site that mentions MSICUU2.exe is for Office.
The page says the tool has been removed from the MS site because it affected other installed aplications.
It looks like it has been replaced with a number of Office version specific tools, but there is no mention of a repolacement tool for Exchange Server 2010.
Any comments on whether this step can be left out, or is there another utility?

What about the Virtual Directories in IIS? eg. OWA, PowerShell…

I had to remove them manually in IIS, but it left some AppPools behind. I had to edit the IIS config file manually to remove the orphaned apps and pools.

MSICUU2.exe is the installer for ‘Windows Installer Clean up utility’.
The link no longer works, but if you search in google it will come up. The installer looks like it is just for MS Office, but dont worry, this is the correct app.
Here is a link for MSICUU2.exe (if the link goes dead, just search google fo ‘MSICUU2.exe’):

Once installed you will find ‘Windows Install Cleanup’ in ‘Start->All Programs’ and/or ‘C:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Installer Clean Up\’

Thanks for the information, it was really helpful.
Another thing you may need to remove is the Federated Mailbox and Discovery Mailbox as if you try to install Exchange again in the domain it falls over when it gets to the Hub Transport Role.

I have exchange 2010 co existence with exchange 2003. exchange 2010 cannot ran. i want to remove exchange 2010 and start installation again. do i have only use uninstall exchange 2010 from control panel ?
is there any influence with my exchange 2003

Hi Rizan,
You may first try to fix the Exchange 2010. If nogo, then uninstall from control panel.
Technically it should not affect your exchange 2003. But its good to make AD and Exchange Backup before performing uninstallation.

If you encounter an error when attempting to delete the OU ‘DC=Domain,DC=Com -> OU=Microsoft Exchange Security Groups’, ensure the setting ‘Protect object from accidental deletion’ is not enabled for the OU, as it was in my case.

Additional info:
Please make sure every users have disabled their mailboxes before this removal
There’s 3 exchange system mailboxes in the “Users” container that must been removed as well, if you ever want to re-install exchange in this org

Hi,
Going to use these procedures to manually remove 2010 after a failed 2010 SP1 upgrade attempt. I have an env. where there Exchange 2007 coexists with a single 2010 server. As long as i skip the AD Objects removal, is it safe to assume the other steps are valid? My goal is to reinstall 2010 (non-sp1) with the recoverserver switch thereafter. Thanks.
